All Palmer Woods residents are required to join the Palmer Woods Association (PWA) by paying annual dues, which support many vital services to our neighborhood. Dues are $495 per year or $275 for half a year. For more information, please call Jeffrey Hines, 313-207-5917 or email him at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. - Private Security Patrol:
Recon Security provides 24 hour coverage, 365 days a year. Each of the officers are highly trained and has graduated from a bodyguard academy (Threat Management Center). Their philosophy is to aggressively prevent opportunities for crime. This means that they will greet every person they come across in order to get to know the neighbors and their friends. They will also screen all contractors by taking pictures of their driver’s license, their faces and their vehicles. Recon Officers are able to provide basic medical assistance and they are experts in hand to hand combat. They also provide prearranged escorts if you or a loved one comes home late at night. They are overwhelmingly courteous and professional in all of their interactions with neighbors and non-neighbors. Regular security alerts are emailed to our 220 PWA members to let everyone know when, usually within 12 hours, and how a crime may have occurred. This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. - Street snow removal: To reduce accidents and injuries to our loved ones and autos.
- Beautification & Safety: Board members lobby incessantly and successfully for neighborhood improvements. Acquiring lighting with underground wiring, removing more than 100 dangerous dead trees, trimming nearly 300 trees, and planting numerous trees and flowers are a direct result. Upkeep of our garden islands and vacant properties improves the beauty of Palmer Woods and the value of our homes.
- Expertise to combat abandoned, foreclosed and neglected homes: Several PWA neighbors lead efforts to investigate and contact absentee landlords, banks and mortgage companies. This work includes identifying fraud and working with the City, real estate agents and legal authorities to prevent deterioration of properties and help place them on the market.
- Advocates for our interests: Board members communicate and lobby with the Fire and Police Departments, and other city, county and state officials and leaders.
- Lower property tax laws: PW Board members and neighbors worked with state legislators and city officials revising tax laws to make living in Palmer Woods more affordable.
- Communication via the Palmer Woods Post, email alerts, and website: palmerwoods.org.
- Events: Gatherings, block parties and concerts help us meet our neighbors and build a caring, safer community.
- PWA built permanent lighted landmarks to identify our neighborhood at major intersections by Woodward and Seven Mile.

For almost two decades, PWA has organized the Palmer Woods Home Tour, which raises funds for neighborhood beautification, donates a portion of the profits to organizations to help the homeless, and broadcasts the message that Palmer Woods is a great neighborhood to live in and raise families. PWA also presents the Palmer Woods Music in Homes series to further these goals.
