Can it be anything else but Spring with the sounds of flute and piano singing through the greenery? Eric Lamb and Paul Vasile are more than capable of accompanying Mother Nature while she spreads the warmth and beauty of the new season around us. The first set will take on some big works for flute and piano by Mozart, Schubert, Doppler and Bach. The second set features more contemporary works by Debussy, Barber and Saint-Saens. Our musicians bring these classical masters to life in a stunning hall, surrounded by stained glass and especially designed for chamber music.

Lamb, Detroit-born and one of a generation of young international soloists, defies easy definition or categorization. In 2003 he was a finalist at the German International Music Competition “Pacem in Terris.” A year later he won first prize in the Polytechnische Gesellschaft Chamber Music Competition. In 2006 he took another first prize in the Lenzewski Music Competition and followed that up with first prize in the German Academic Exchange Performing Arts Competition and Goethe Prize.

Lamb is about more than competitions. He’s a core member of New York’s famed International Contemporary Ensemble, and has performed world and U.S. premieres of more than 100 works. He’s participated in numerous prestigious ensemble-in-residence programs and has been guest soloist with the Oberlin Orchestra, DePauw Chamber Orchestra, Cologne Chamber Ensemble, Polish Chamber Philharmonic, City of Giessen Orchestra and Frankfurt Music Academy Orchestra. From 2002 to 2007 he was principal flutist with the Radio Orchestra of Frankfurt. In 2008 he performed with England’s City of Birmingham Orchestra touring Germany, Holland, Italy and Switzerland under the direction of Sakari Oramo. He is currently touring the United States and recently joined the flute faculty of SUNY-Long Island Conservatory of Music.

Vasile is Minister of Music at Park Avenue Christian Church in New York City, where he shares his passion for sacred music from diverse traditions and styles. That includes encouraging the congregation to bring forth their own musical gifts, as well as composing for world-class ensembles. His most recent commission was performed in Orvieto, Italy, in 2009, and Es ist genug for trombone octet and organ, was premiered by the St. Louis Trombone Quartet and members of the St. Louis Symphony. Committed to church-community partnerships, Vasile takes the fusion of music and spirituality to a higher plane.
