
Bill Meyer leads the Bill Meyer Group, which has been a successful and prominent dance band in the area for more than 30 years. This ensemble of versatile musicians plays at many of the major establishments, country clubs and parties, and as well as at major jazz festivals. Meyer is also part of the acclaimed SBH Trio, house band for the Open Mic Jazz Jam at Bert's Marketplace in the Eastern Market.
A highly in demand musician, Meyer composes and arranges for TV, film and radio, and has been keyboardist for several Broadway shows, including Guys and Dolls, Wizard of Oz, Lion King, Mama Mia, and The Rockettes.
He also music directs, plays keyboards, and has toured with Motown's Martha Reeves, the Latin group La Inspiracion, Marcus Belgrave's Tribute to Louis Armstrong Show, The Ray Charles Show, and Dave Bennett's Benny Goodman Tribute, among others.
Over the years Meyer has conducted and played keyboards for such acts as George Burns, Milton Berle, Smokey Robinson, Cab Calloway, Burt Bacharach, Nipsey Russell, Natalie Cole, Savion Glover, Moodyman, and many others.
He is also highly respected for his work producing and/or music-directing shows, including The Detroit Tribute to Paul Robeson, Barbara Dane Returns, Dave Rovics concert, Dave Lippman concert, Forgotten: A Jazz Opera, Music In the Struggle, and others.
A lifelong member of Detroit Federation of Musicians, Local 5, Meyer recently retired from the Dance Dept. at Wayne State University, where he began in 1967.
