19275 Burlington

Built in 1925 by architect Clarence Day, this beautiful 6,360-square-foot Tudor Revival is breathtaking inside and out. The exterior Tudor Revival elements are familiar and unmistakable, including a multi-colored slate roof with massive front gable and numerous peaks and valleys; fluted brick chimneys; variable-colored brick façade with random ashlar protruding bricks, and the appropriate precision-cut limestone surrounds of windows and doors.

Entering through a massive four-foot arched, carved, oak front door, one steps into the large paneled foyer, which includes a panel with a hidden door into the kitchen hallway. The  Rookwood tiled floor and double paneled doors lead to the library, which  has variable-width, plank-pegged wood floors, and is surrounded by wormed-gum, wood-paneled walls, bookshelves, and an unusually beautiful fireplace embedded with sepia-toned Dutch Delft tiles.

The foyer also leads to the Great Room, a massive two-and-a-half story paneled room complete with vaulted ceilings and hand-chiseled beams with a transverse stirrup. At one end of the room is a two-and-a-half story wall of cut and quarried limestone surrounding an oversized hearth with an original wood-burning stove which helps to heat the entire home. At the other end, a hand-carved staircase imported from England leads to a second story balcony, which overlooks the entire room. Descending from the ceiling is a stunning, original, hand-cranked candelabra chandelier. The floors are multi-width, pegged, pickled planks which provide a contrasting palette in a room glowing with rich, earthy woods and warm hues. Huge leaded and stained-glass windows provide considerable light, and there is yet another arched carved door leading to a private brick patio.

Under the staircase stand carved bookshelves that lead into the formal dining room. This room has distinctive quarter-sawn oak paneled walls, unique box-beamed ceilings, a fireplace, and French doors leading to another patio.

The gourmet kitchen boasts original center cut wood cabinets that cannot be duplicated. The kitchen has many built in appliances, stainless steel counters and computer room. This home is gracious and elegant for living and entertaining.
