CLOTHING DRIVES
titlePalmer Woods Shared the Love and Donated Clothing to COTS. More than 40 families donated several hundred bags of clothing to COTS on Saturday, February 13, 2010 (Valentine’s weekend). The 2011 Clothing Drive will collect clothing for The Society of Saint Vincent de Paul Detroit Thrift Stores. Click here to read more about the 2011 drive.

Volunteers Rob Dewaelsche, Craig Vanderburg, Corbin Vanderburg and Kevin Warfield picked up the donations from porches in Palmer Woods and filled a rented truck. Rob, Craig and Barbara Barefield delivered the clothing to an appreciative crowd at COTS, where an assembly line of volunteers helped to unload the truck and carry the bags inside. Deborah Copeland organized the Clothing Drive for 2010.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our clothing drive.

The 2011 Clothing Drive will be held on Saturday, Feb. 26. If you are interested in helping or will pledge items to donated, email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

Why this works: As times get tougher, many of us in Palmer Woods recognize our good fortune to have our homes, families and warm clothing. To assist others less fortunate, and seize an opportunity to clear our homes of  unneeded clothing, the Palmer Woods Association sponsored this clothing drive for COTS.

What is COTS?
COTS is a nonprofit organization that alleviates homelessness by providing an array of services that enable people to achieve self-sufficiency and obtain quality, affordable housing. COTS also advocates for long-term solutions to the problems of homelessness. Our “Share the Love” clothes collection project is a wonderful opportunity for Palmer Woods to show our support of COTS and the people of Detroit.

In lieu of the annual monetary donation PWA makes to COTS from the proceeds of the Home Tour, the Board felt that this project would illustrate our commitment in assisting this outstanding organization. COTS and its growing number of recipients are in need more than ever before.

Volunteer to Help
Volunteers (children too) are needed to assist in the pick-up and delivery. To help, call Craig Vanderburg, 313-891-3306, or Sandy Powell, 313.893.7273, or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
